Why We Created Mindful Movers: A Mom's POV

3 min read

As a mom of a neurodivergent child, I’m always looking for activities that not only support my kiddo in his development but also bring him a feeling of joy and a sense of calm. It’s a daily adventure, balancing his needs with finding those magical moments where we can truly be himself.

That’s why I couldn’t be more excited to announce that we’re bringing back our beloved Kids Mindfulness class to the wellbe community.

Back in 2019, before life took an unexpected turn (haha), wellbe was all about creating a space where kids could discover the joy of movement and the calming power of yoga. When we had to close during Covid and shifted the space to focus on mental health therapy, it felt like something was missing. Now, it’s time to bring that magic back.

I’m thrilled to share that we’re bringing back our Mindful Movers Yoga class! This class holds a special place in my heart because it was designed with kids like my 7-year-old in mind. A class that keeps ADHD and other neurodivergent conditions in mind. While the class welcomes ALL kids, neurotypical and neurodivergent alike, we knew it was essential to keep mindfulness at the heart of it all.

Why We Created Mindful Movers Yoga

At wellbe, we recognized a gap in our community—an inclusive, engaging space where kids can learn to move their bodies, calm their minds, and have fun at the same time. As a chiropractor and clinic owner, I understand the importance of integrating movement and mindfulness into daily life, especially for children who might struggle with focus, emotional regulation, and energy levels. That’s why we designed this class to blend playfulness with grounding techniques, making it a safe and supportive environment for all kids.

3 Reasons Why Mindful Movers Yoga is Perfect for Neurodivergent Kids

Movement with Purpose:

Neurodivergent children often have a lot of energy, and channeling that energy in a positive way is key. Our class uses dynamic and playful yoga poses to help kids build strength, flexibility, and coordination. These movements aren’t just fun—they’re designed to help kids connect with their bodies and develop a sense of control and confidence in their physical abilities.

Mindfulness Made Fun:

Mindfulness can be a powerful tool for children, especially those with ADHD. However, it needs to be introduced in a way that feels natural and enjoyable. In Mindful Movers, we weave mindfulness techniques into the class through games, activities, and breathing exercises. This helps kids learn to focus and calm their minds without feeling like it’s a chore.

Emotional Regulation through Breathwork:

One of the biggest challenges for neurodivergent kids is managing emotions and energy levels. Through fun breathing exercises, our class teaches children how to use their breath to feel more centred and relaxed. These techniques are easy to remember and can be used outside of class, giving kids tools they can carry with them into their everyday lives.

As both a mom and a healthcare professional, I saw the need for a class that didn’t just focus on movement but also addressed the emotional and sensory needs of neurodivergent children.

Mindful Movers is a space where kids can be themselves, move, play, and learn valuable life skills in a supportive environment. I’m excited to see the positive impact this class will have on our community, and I hope it provides other families with the same sense of connection and growth that I’m seeking for my son.

If you’re looking for an activity that supports your child’s development in a fun and inclusive way, I truly believe Mindful Movers could be a great fit. I can’t wait to see your kiddos join us on this calming and empowering yoga adventure!
